The EPA has steadily remediated the 18,000-acre New Bedford Harbor Superfund site since 1984. With remediation work projected to wrap up in 2025, assessing a realistic vision for the former EPA clean-up headquarters and a highly contaminated upriver site are crucial for New Bedford's future economic development goals. Each site was analyzed for a variety of uses and open space types for financial viability associated with the safe capping of contaminated soils.
Role: As the project manager and lead designer, I coordinated a team of planners, landscape architects, and financial analysts to assess the redevelopment potential for two highly contaminated sites on the waterfront. I left Utile while this study was being finalized. All images included here were completed while I was still at Utile.
