Sports Town
Master Plan

2016
United States
Project Manager & Lead Designer at Utile

The team explored three alternative scenarios that share a single attitude about the potential relationship between the sports venues and the town center:

  1. It is better to embed the sports and entertainment venues within the “urban core” than to establish a separate center of gravity.
  2. The baseball park and stadium are tied together by a memorable pedestrian experience that includes plazas, walkways, and entertainment destinations.
  3. The flexible open spaces proposed can transition from highly trafficked game-day activity to a neighborhood-oriented restaurant and entertainment area during the off-season and non-game days.
  4. The ballpark and stadium interact with nearby spaces and buildings in order to create programmatic synergies and the kinds of idiosyncratic design features that make the park famous.
  5. The scenarios explore the advantages of providing views into the sports venues from surrounding buildings.
  6. The other mixed-use buildings that frame the sports venues will be of a similar height and scale in order to create an “urban fabric.”

Role: As the project manager and lead designer, I worked with the principal in charge to establish the plan options and led a team of two in graphic and design production.
